Hubert Kindergarten Center serves 190 five-and six-year-old students. Hubert has a diverse student population with over one-third of the population from Portuguese and Spanish speaking homes.
As a Massachusetts Service Learning Leader School, Hubert Kindergarten has served as an observation site for visitors and groups wishing to learn more about service learning, encouraging and assisting other schools in making service to the community an important part of the curriculum. Within the last two years, visitors to the kindergarten have come from around the world.
Hubert’s service learning projects have been highlighted in the book, Kids Taking Action, published by the Northeast Foundation for Children, in the 2001 position paper, "Learning in Deed," published by the Education Commission of the States, and in the January-February, 2003 edition of Principal magazine. State Farm Companies Foundation recently published a report entitled, Growing to Greatness, highlighting exceptional community service learning projects in 18 states throughout the U.S. Hubert Kindergarten’s "Quilt Makers" project is the representative community service learning project for the state of Massachusetts. Principal Linda Corbin says, “Every year it is gratifying to see a deepening in the culture of kindness that is pervasive at the Hubert Kindergarten.”
